About Regan Safier

Regan Safier is a partner at Kline & Specter specializing in medical malpractice, product liability, and catastrophic injury litigation. She earned her undergraduate degree from Lehigh University, graduating magna cum laude, and obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served as notes editor for The Journal of Law and Politics. Safier's career began as a criminal prosecutor, working two years as a Philadelphia assistant district attorney. She subsequently joined Weber, Gallagher, Simpson, Stapleton, Fires & Newby as a civil defense attorney, where she represented doctors, nurses, and hospitals while gaining extensive courtroom experience. During her defense practice, she tried numerous cases in state and federal courts and argued successfully before the Pennsylvania Superior Court and Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Her most significant achievements include winning the largest-ever medical malpractice award in federal court in the Middle District of Pennsylvania—nearly $42 million for a child who suffered severe brain damage from a forceps injury at birth (2017, U.S. government defendant). Shortly before this, she helped secure an almost identical $42.9 million verdict for a birth injury case at a Philadelphia hospital, among the largest medical malpractice verdicts in Pennsylvania history. In March 2025, Safier secured a $12 million settlement from a cement company for the estate of Michael Pittman, a contract ironworker who fell 23 feet to his death while installing wood planking during maintenance work on a cement cooler at a Pennsylvania mine. The company lacked proper safety anchors in the area. During 2023, Safier obtained two major medical malpractice settlements: $14.25 million in a pediatric ENT and anesthesia case involving anoxic brain damage requiring round-the-clock care, and $7.5 million for a woman who suffered severe brain damage from a medical error while seeking alcohol abuse treatment. In May 2021, Safier negotiated a $2.75 million settlement with the federal government for a 53-year-old veteran who suffered partial amputation of his left leg due to podiatrist error at the Pittsburgh Veterans Administration Medical Center. In 2019, she won a $9.2 million verdict for Reading industrial sanitation worker Jose Natal, who lost his leg in a screw conveyor at a meat processing factory. The defendant failed to provide adequate supervision or lockout-tagout procedures, and the equipment lacked an interlock switch. Additional major settlements include $13.2 million in a premises liability case involving an injured worker and $16 million (as co-counsel) for a 57-year-old man who suffered brain injury from improper care following heart bypass surgery at a Philadelphia hospital (2014). Safier was also co-counsel in litigation resulting in a $17.5 million verdict against the Veterans Administration for a former U.S. Marine who suffered a crippling stroke after a dental procedure with precipitous blood pressure drops, paid in full in 2012 when the government dropped its appeal. In late 2010, Safier helped win a $5.2 million jury verdict for the family of a Philadelphia woman who developed internal bleeding following a routine procedure and died when doctors failed to provide timely treatment. Additional major settlements litigated by Safier include $11 million for a young mother suffering brain damage during eye surgery; $16 million for a dentist with brain damage after surgery; $7 million for a teacher with brain damage after cardiac arrest in an emergency room; $7 million for the family of an 18-year-old college student who died during heart surgery; $6 million for the family of a high school student who died following orthopedic surgery; $6 million for a contractor with a ruptured aneurysm causing brain damage and blindness after hospital refusal based on insurance; and $5 million for a plumber paralyzed from improper epidural placement. Safier has been recognized by Super Lawyers for 2020-2026 as one of Pennsylvania's top attorneys and was selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America for 2020. She is a member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia bar associations and serves Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, and clients nationwide.
