
About Tobi Millrood
Tobi L. Millrood is a partner who chairs the firm's Mass Tort Department. With 25 years of complex litigation experience, he has held court-appointed leadership positions and secured major jury verdicts in complex cases. His expertise centers on pharmaceutical, medical device, and complex personal injury litigation. Most recently, in October 2023, Millrood served as co-counsel in a case resulting in a $175 million verdict against Monsanto Co. for an elderly Philadelphia man diagnosed with cancer following prolonged use of the company's herbicide Roundup. The Philadelphia Common Pleas Court verdict served as the bellwether case among hundreds of pending trials in the Philadelphia mass tort program addressing Roundup claims. The award included $150 million in punitive damages. Millrood is past president of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the world's largest trial bar, completing his term in July 2021 and currently serving as Immediate Past President. His leadership within AAJ has earned him numerous recognitions, including Distinguished Service, Heavy Lifting, and the prestigious President's Award in 2015. Millrood has garnered extensive accolades and maintains a national reputation in mass torts. He has been named among Pennsylvania's best attorneys by Super Lawyers annually since 2009, including for 2026. His significant achievements in prescription drug and medical device litigation include sustained efforts against Wyeth, Pfizer, and numerous Fortune 100 companies in landmark Hormone Therapy litigation. In 2002, Millrood was the first nationwide to file a Hormone Therapy lawsuit and devoted twelve years to the matter, serving as Plaintiffs' Lead Liaison Counsel in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court overseeing thousands of cases. He served on the plaintiffs' executive committee in In Re Prempro Products Liability and chaired the AAJ Hormone Therapy Litigation Group. Millrood tried four hormone therapy cases, achieving jury verdicts in all four, including verdicts of $72.6 million and $34.3 million. He contributed significantly to critical appellate victories ranging from Pennsylvania and Minnesota state courts to the U.S. Eighth Circuit. Millrood served in numerous court-appointed leadership positions in other pharmaceutical and medical device cases, including co-lead counsel in In re Zofran (Ondansetron) Products Liability Litigation MDL 2657 and as co-lead counsel in In re Zimmer Nexgen Knee Products Liability Litigation, MDL 2272. Millrood was named co-lead counsel in Pennsylvania opioid litigation, Del. Cty. vs Purdue Pharma, et al. Working with local and national leaders, he served on a leadership team that negotiated a settlement capable of delivering over $1 billion to Pennsylvania municipalities and communities affected by the opioid epidemic. Additionally, he has held court-appointed positions including Plaintiffs' Steering Committee roles in In re Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Stem and ABG Modular Hip Litigation in Bergen County, N.J., and In re Consolidated Fresenius Cases in Massachusetts Superior Court, where he also served as Discovery Chair in both instances. Millrood is frequently engaged for his strategic planning and discovery architecture expertise in mass tort litigation. He regularly presents at seminars addressing Mass Tort Litigation, Expert Witnesses, Direct and Cross-Examination, Closing and Rebuttal at Trial, Mass Tort Case Settlement Ethics, Trial Strategies, and Electronic Discovery. He has testified before the Federal Civil Rules Committee regarding proposed rule changes and authored numerous comments to the Rules Committee and MDL Subcommittee. Millrood serves as an invited lecturer at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and as an invited trial team coach at Tulane Law School. Earlier in his career, he achieved notable verdicts including serving as co-counsel in a $22 million medical malpractice verdict, among the largest in state history at that time. Millrood holds membership on the Pennsylvania Association for Justice Board of Governors and the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Board of Directors. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the federal District of New Jersey, the U.S. Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. Third Circuit.
