Background
Steve Barnes (1958-2020) was the founder of The Barnes Firm, dedicated to seeking justice for individuals harmed by the wrongdoing of others. A former Marine Corps officer and combat veteran of the Gulf War, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1984 and served on active duty as trial counsel, later serving as a Captain with the 8th Tank Battalion, Second Marine Division during Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. He was a founding member of Cellino & Barnes of New York before founding The Barnes Firm of California and New York. Over a 30+ year career, Steve was involved as counsel in scores of multi-million dollar cases including motor vehicle accidents, construction accidents, severe burns, traumatic brain injury, and medical malpractice matters, and acted as lead trial counsel in a Manhattan products liability case that resulted in one of the largest settlements in American history.
