$1 Million Settlement After Amazon Delivery Van Driver Failed to Yield for Motorcyclist
Won by Trantolo & Trantolo.
A Connecticut motorcyclist ejected when an Amazon-branded delivery van driver cut a left turn without yielding recovered $1 million, with the case later recognized as a Top 10 Connecticut Motorcycle Accident Settlement of 2023 by TopVerdict.
What happened
The collision happened when an Amazon-branded delivery van driver attempted a left turn and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming motorcyclist. The impact threw the rider from his motorcycle. He was taken to a hospital and required multiple surgeries, and his injuries left him with permanent physical limitations.
The legal picture was more complicated than the crash itself. The van displayed Amazon Prime logos and markings, but Amazon did not own it. The vehicle was operated through a third-party independent contractor, Atlantic Courier Service, which in turn leased the van rather than owned it. That ownership chain meant the firm had to trace liability across Amazon, the delivery service partner, and the leasing company to find adequate insurance coverage.
Attorney Albert Carocci of Trantolo and Trantolo handled the case, with paralegal Monica Tuscano assisting. Carocci documented the severity of the client's injuries, the extent of his long-term losses, and the driver's clear failure to yield before proceeding through the turn. After that process, the parties reached a settlement of $1 million.
The Connecticut Law Tribune covered the result in November 2022, and Carocci used the platform to flag a broader concern for injured riders: Amazon-branded vehicles visible on public roads are almost always owned and operated by independent delivery contractors, not Amazon directly. If those contractors carry inadequate insurance, an injured claimant may face real coverage gaps. In this case, the coverage held.
TopVerdict later ranked the settlement among the Top 10 Connecticut Motorcycle Accident Settlements of 2023.
