About Maury Herman

Maury A. Herman is Of Counsel at Herman, Katz, Gisleson & Cain, where he was a senior partner from 1985 to 2018, when he attained senior status. He is also Managing Partner of Herman Gerel, LLP, a national firm headquartered in Atlanta with offices in New Orleans and the Washington, D.C. area. Born in New Orleans, he earned his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1968. He won the Moot Court Competition in 1968 and clerked for Judge Luther Hall at the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals from 1967 to 1968. Upon graduation he joined his father, Harry Herman, and uncle, David Herman, in the family practice. He is a sustaining member of the American Association for Justice, a Diplomat of Trial Advocacy of the National College of Advocacy, and has served on AAJ's faculty since 1992. He co-chaired the Tobacco Products Liability Group of AAJ and served as a member of the PLC's Finance, Administrative, and Public Relations Committees as part of the Castano Tobacco Class Action, a coalition of 60 plaintiff firms. He was also a member of the trial team representing the Louisiana Attorney General in Louisiana's claim against the tobacco industry. He served as general counsel of the New Orleans Saints from 1986 through 1993, and was involved in negotiating the purchase of the Saints by Tom Benson in 1986. He is past president of the Louisiana Association for Justice and a former Chairman of the New Orleans Central Business District Historic District. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2014 and in Louisiana Super Lawyers from 2007 through 2026.
