About Soren Gisleson

Soren E. Gisleson is a partner at Herman, Katz, Gisleson & Cain. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1993, then attended Loyola University School of Law, where he received his J.D. in May 1999. At Loyola he served as articles editor of the Law Review and published a casenote in the Loyola Law Review. He was named to the National Law School Dean's List in 1999. After graduation he clerked for the Honorable Carl J. Barbier, District Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He joined HKGC as an associate in the fall of 2000. In 2005 he led first-party insurance litigation on behalf of homeowners and businesses following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and held a special state appointment to prosecute an antitrust case against the insurance industry. He also represented the New Orleans City Council in civil litigation involving utility, zoning, and regulatory matters. From 2010 onward, he served as second chair to co-lead counsel Stephen Herman in the BP Deepwater Horizon MDL, one of the most complex mass torts in U.S. history. He currently represents survivors of clergy sexual abuse and individuals with civil rights claims against law enforcement agencies, prisons, and cities. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2016, Louisiana Super Lawyers since 2017, and the Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers Guide in 2022 through 2024 and in 2026.
