About Steven Haspel

Steven Haspel is a trial and appellate lawyer with a national practice. He represents clients in a broad range of cases, including victims of mass shootings and catastrophic injuries in Texas, military families harmed by federal government negligence, and victims of domestic and sexual violence resulting from institutional neglect. He participated in the Sutherland Springs mass shooting trial in 2021, which resulted in a $230 million judgment against the United States. On the appellate side, he maintains an active record through the Texas Supreme Court. He and Laurie Higginbotham obtained a $10.5 million settlement in Missouri against the Federal Government, the largest settlement of its type in that state. Before returning to Texas, Steven was a Thurgood Marshall Scholar and Dean's Fellow at the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., where he clerked for both the criminal and civil divisions of the U.S. Department of Justice and graduated as the Top Trial Advocate of his class. His interest in trial advocacy started at the University of Texas, where Jamal Alsaffar and Tom Jacob served as his mock trial coaches. After joining NTL, he became head coach for the University of Texas at Austin's official undergraduate mock trial team.
