About James Terrell

James T. Terrell is the founding partner of Terrell Hogan Law. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, he earned both his B.A. and J.D. from Stetson University and served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 before beginning his legal career. Early in his career as a defense attorney, a moment in which an unprepared plaintiff's attorney left an injured passenger uncompensated convinced Jim to switch sides and dedicate his work to representing injured victims. In 1974, he joined attorneys Hank Searcy and Tom Brown to form Searcy, Brown & Terrell, the predecessor firm to Terrell Hogan Law. In one notable case, Jim and a colleague represented a sanitation worker who suffered catastrophic injuries after being struck while riding on the rear of a garbage truck; the case revealed a dangerous design flaw and prompted manufacturers to add warning lights, improving safety for workers nationwide. He has received Board Certification as a Civil Trial Lawyer from the Florida Bar Board of Certification.
