About Don Scott

Don Scott grew up one of six children raised by a single mother in Houston, Texas. His academic talent was recognized early, and he went on to earn a B.S. in agricultural education from Texas A&M University in 1987. He then served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, including as the legal officer aboard the USS John Hancock, an assignment that redirected his career toward law. He earned his J.D. from Louisiana State University School of Law in 1994. For more than a decade, Scott worked in workforce development, rising to Senior Vice President at KRA Corporation. While working full-time, he sat for and passed the Virginia Bar in 2014, then established the Law Office of Don Scott, PLLC in 2015, handling personal injury, civil rights, and criminal defense cases. In 2022, he joined Breit Biniazan as a partner. Beyond the law, Scott was elected to Virginia's House of Delegates in 2019 representing the 88th District, and in 2023 he became the first Black Speaker of the House in the Commonwealth's 404-year history.
