Mark Caruso grew up in the Los Angeles area and attended Pepperdine University for both his undergraduate degree and law school. After working as an attorney representing insurance companies in Southern California, he visited New Mexico, fell in love with the state, and relocated in 1985. He married Judy Velarde and together they opened Caruso Law Offices in Albuquerque in 1987. Mark is licensed in New Mexico, California, and Arizona. He served in the New Mexico Legislature from 1991 to 1995 and has been appointed by both Republican and Democrat Governors to various New Mexico Boards and Commissions. He has been named one of the top 3 personal injury attorneys in Albuquerque and one of the top 10 attorneys in New Mexico for car accident and truck accident litigation, and was a finalist for the National Trial Lawyers Association's top truck accident lawyer in the country. Mark's current practice focuses on tractor-trailer and semi-truck collisions throughout New Mexico. He has obtained jury verdicts of $5.5 million and $7.8 million in U.S. District Court in New Mexico, and has settled cases for $12 million each in both U.S. District Court and NM District Court. He is a member of state and national trial lawyer associations and the ATAA (Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys), and is frequently consulted by other attorneys on Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the New Mexico Motor Carrier Act.
