About Richard Shevitz
After more than 30 years of practicing law, including nearly 25 at CohenMalad LLP as Equity Partner and Chair of the Class Action practice group, Richard Shevitz now serves as Of Counsel for the firm. During his tenure, Richard's practice involved class action litigation covering consumer protection, antitrust, and claims against state and local government entities. In 2017, he negotiated a class action settlement providing $60 million in refunds to Indiana motorists overcharged by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. In 2020, he participated in negotiations resulting in a nationwide class action settlement restoring policy benefits to over 500,000 insureds. In 2006, he served as trial counsel in a case against outside professionals that resulted in a $17.9 million jury verdict on behalf of 8,200 Hoosiers left with unpaid health care claims. From 1987 to 1990, Richard served as Assistant Director of the Legal Affairs Department of the Anti-Defamation League, where he litigated First Amendment and civil rights cases.
