Oftentimes, insurance companies take advantage of the "little guy" simply because they know they can. Before I became a lawyer, I witnessed an insurance company attempt to take advantage of a close family member after she suffered catastrophic injuries, and I saw the profoundly negative impact the event had on my family as a whole.
