
About J.R. Bernans
J.R. Bernans is an Ohio native who grew up in Columbus, the son of a history teacher and pharmacist. He attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated summa cum laude from its Carl H. Lindner College of Business with an accounting degree. He then attended the University of Cincinnati College of Law, graduating magna cum laude and in the top ten percent of his class. In law school, J.R. was a member of the UC Law Review, Trial Team, and Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Clinic, and worked as a fellow at the Ohio Innocence Project. Before joining Treleven & Klingensmith, he worked at Faruki PLL, Rittgers Rittgers & Nakajima, and as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Clermont County, Ohio. His practice covers felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, white-collar matters, federal regulatory issues, and complex civil litigation. Using his background in both business and law, J.R. offers clients a perspective on their cases that draws on experience both as a defense attorney and as a prosecutor. He has obtained favorable verdicts in bench and jury trials and resolved cases through pretrial methods across a range of legal matters.
