Michael J. Hurwitz is a partner at Block O'Toole & Murphy in New York City who has practiced law since 1998 representing exclusively injured victims. He joined the firm in January 2013 and became a partner in 2020, focusing on catastrophic construction accidents, labor law claims, medical malpractice, wrongful death, premises liability, and significant motor vehicle accidents.
Mr. Hurwitz handles his cases from inception through trial and has secured many of the firm's most substantial recoveries. Notable results include an $11 million settlement for a brain-damaged infant injured by improper medical care, a $9.5 million settlement for a pedestrian whose leg was amputated by an NYCTA bus, $7 million for a 27-year-old iron worker injured in a construction accident, $6.95 million for a 50-year-old carpenter who fell from scaffolding, and a $6.6 million verdict for a student burned by an oxy-acetylene torch.
Mr. Hurwitz earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in 1993 and his Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law in 1998. He was admitted to the New York and New Jersey bars in 1999, and is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts for Connecticut, New Jersey, and the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, as well as the United States Supreme Court (2007).
He has been named a New York Super Lawyer every year since 2015, recognizing him among the top five percent of lawyers in his field, and is a member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 with an AVVO 10.0 rating and Client's Choice Award.
