About Sam Sutter

Sam Sutter is an accomplished attorney and public servant with a background spanning criminal prosecution, public office, and private practice. A Brown University graduate and former varsity tennis player, he earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1983 and began his career in criminal defense on Cape Cod before joining the Bristol County District Attorney's Office in 1991. There he prosecuted hundreds of cases and was recognized as Prosecutor of the Year by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Sutter later served as Bristol County District Attorney, where he drove initiatives to reduce gun violence, solve cold cases, and improve victim advocacy, was twice named Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly Lawyer of the Year, and oversaw high-profile cases including the Aaron Hernandez murder prosecution. He subsequently served as mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts. He has returned to private practice and is licensed in Massachusetts.
