Matt Powell

Matt Powell is triple board certified: he holds Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer status from the Florida Bar, and is Board Certified in both Civil Trial Law and Civil Practice Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is also admitted to the Georgia Bar. Powell began his career at a prominent insurance defense firm in Tallahassee representing more than 20 insurance companies, which gave him direct insight into the tactics insurers use to minimize payouts to injured people and families. He left defense work to open his own firm representing individuals and has practiced personal injury law from the historic Hutchinson Mansion on Plant Avenue in Tampa since 1989.

MattLaw handles catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, nursing home abuse, car accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, and traumatic brain injuries. Powell is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and completed his 100th jury trial in 2026. He is a life member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, a member of the American Association for Justice Presidents Club, and sustaining member of the Florida Justice Association, Motor Vehicle Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America.
