Background
Alex Kozinski is a retired Senior United States Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where he served from 1985 to 2017, including as Chief Judge from 2007 to 2014. Before his appellate bench appointment, he served as Chief Judge of the United States Claims Court (1982-85), Special Counsel to the Merit Systems Protection Board, and Assistant Counsel in the Office of Counsel to the President under Reagan. He clerked for Chief Justice Warren E. Burger and Circuit Judge Anthony M. Kennedy. He now serves as a Criminal Defense Consultant at Attorneys For Freedom Law Firm, providing expertise on practice and procedure in state and federal cases and occasionally appearing as counsel of record.
