About Ryan Black
Ryan Black is a personal injury trial attorney at Hepworth Holzer with an extensive jury trial record built across criminal defense and public advocacy work. He grew up in Featherville, Idaho, in the Sawtooth National Forest, and earned his J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2016, during which he also worked with the Nez Perce Tribe. After graduating, he clerked for a district judge in Payette, Idaho, gaining courtroom exposure daily, then joined the Ada County Public Defender's Office. In his first year there, he tried more than ten cases to verdict, and the office recognized his output with its 'Trial Cockroach' award for the most trials in a single year. In 2019, he attended both the Maricopa County Trial School and the National Criminal Defense College in Rhode Island. After four years at the Public Defender's Office, he co-founded a criminal defense and personal injury firm that grew to 13 people. He joined Hepworth Holzer in 2025 with a record of more than 40 cases tried to verdict. He is recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2024 and 2025 and is a 2025 graduate of the Idaho Academy of Leadership for Lawyers.
