About Carleton Hoy
Carleton R. "Tex" Hoy is a native of Vermillion, South Dakota. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1950 and his Juris Doctor in 1956, both from the University of South Dakota. He was a member of the USD Board of Law Review from 1955 to 1956 and served as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Mickelson in the District of South Dakota from 1956 to 1957, and later as Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney from 1973 to 1974. Tex has over 60 years of experience as a trial lawyer, having litigated cases in state and federal courts and before the Department of Labor. He has extensive appellate experience before the South Dakota Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has served as President of the State Bar of South Dakota (1979-1980), President of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association (1968-1969), and President of the International Society of Barristers (1988-1989). He is a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers and a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
